During my semester studying at National College of Art and Design Dublin in Ireland, we got the assignment to work on a brief from penguin book design. We had a couple of books to choose from and I chose To kill a mockingbird.

I chose to portray a mockingbird around the cover with a bullet coming its way. The pose stands for the innocent mockingbird fighting for its life and fighting against the bullet. Next to the mockingjay on the front cover you see a bluejay that’s not being attacked, this is a reference to the quote on the back cover; ‘Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird'.’
